On a side note, have you heard of the Nike Free? They're comfy and techy and have a chip in them that sends run info straight to the bangin' watch I have. And you can design your own with any combo of colors you want. How fun is that?!
Also, not quite as weird looking as those trendy toe shoes, but still uber flexible and protective.
